Also looked at:

Bernard Pullman 2001 The atom in the history of human thought Oxford University Press

Begins with the Pre-Socratics and ends with 20th century quantum physics.

Guy Murchie 1967 Music of the spheres, Vol II The microcosm Dover

Quite an old book but it is the best introduction I have found to wave phenomena at all levels. It is exact, well visualized and easy to read. Can be found cheap through Amazon used.
